At the military barracks ‘Mirche Acev’ in Prilep, with a military ceremony, members of the Artillery Battalion marked 10th April – Day of the unit.
The ceremony was attended by: the Commander of the Joint Operational Command, Major General Vasko Gjurchinovski; the Commander of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Zoran Mileski; other ARM units’ commanders, former artillery units’ commanders, representatives of the Association of War Veterans; mayors from the region; representatives of the public and business sector in the region and the local media.
Commander of the Artillery Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ivica Cvetkovski, in his speech gave a historical overview of the unit and addressed the engagement of the personnel in support of the police forces in dealing with the migrant crisis.
At the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the unit incentives were granted to battalion members, while Lieutenant Dzavit Zekiri’s platoon was named the best and received the cup and the unit flag.
Preceding the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the unit, 10th April, members of the Artillery Battalion organized sports competitions with teams from the city; a voluntary blood donation activity; visit to the ‘11th October’ museum; a humanitarian action for the children from the Centre for Persons with Disabilities ‘Message’ from Prilep, and tactical-technical assembly displaying armament and equipment for the students from primary and secondary municipal schools.
By a decree from the President of the Republic of Macedonia and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Dr Gjorge Ivanov, 10th April was set as the Day of the Artillery Battalion, representing a date from recent history when 1st ARM artillery unit was founded in independent and sovereign Republic of Macedonia.
